Two by Pirandello is a contemporary translation (by U of T PhD student Laura Lucci) of two lesser-known Pirandello One-Acts; The Man with the Flower in his Mouth and Sicilian Limes.
In Sicilian Limes, Micuccio Bonavino has travelled for nearly two days to see the woman he loves, Teresina. After helping her begin her pursue career as a singer, a sudden shift in fortune proves that she has met with success. It explores the breakdown of interpersonal
relationships as individuals change across time and distance.
The Man with the Flower in his Mouth remarks upon the illusory character of life in the face of its brevity. A young traveler, having missed his train, finds himself at an all-night café, where an old man strikes up a conversation about the day’s inconveniences. The exchange
takes a dark turn as the elder character demonstrates all that he has taken for granted.
